Tucked away in the Shropshire Hills, our encampments are on the ancient Acton Scott estate, offering some of the finest natural scenery in England. Catch panoramas of Ragleth Hill and the spectacular escarpment of Wenlock Edge, a rural idyll made famous by the poems of A.E. Housman’s ‘A Shropshire Lad’.
The Acton family has owned land here since the 12th century and today their 1,500 acre estate consists of several farmsteads, stone and timber framed cottages, ancient woodland and open pasture.
In recent times, when many landowners obliterated all traces of the past in pursuit of modernisation, the Actons chose instead to lovingly preserve the history and heritage of their estate, which is much in evidence today. As a result, Acton Scott has attracted

national profile through television appearances (see below) and by hosting visitors to Country House Hideout.
Your encampments are located in Hatton Wood, on their own private woodland clearing, positioned to catch the evening sunlight. You are surrounded by pastures managed to encourage wildlife and affording panoramic views of the estate, which can be enjoyed following one of Acton Scott's guided walks. Each offers artisan shops and independent boutiques galore. But if you cannot tear yoursefl away from Acton Scott, we have arranged for the finest local produce to delivered on your arrival.
Shropshire is renowned for its seasonal produce and purveyors of fine food, so instead of a bothy, Acton Scott has organised a food and drink delivery service direct to your encampment. The estate achieved national fame as the setting for television’s hugely popular ‘Victorian Farm ’series, acknowledging the Acton family’s tireless championing of sustainable practices. Its success has been followed by another BBC show filmed entirely at Acton Scott.
